Terrible article - actually this sounds like a bad state of affairs and as a designer I can see how Mobile Safari could be dangerous. I'm an Apple fanboy myself (typing this on an iPhone in a Safari formatted webpage).

Simply saying it won't happen because Apple make Safari is naive and stupid. In universities the big thing is coding an iPhone website along a regular one. It would really be just as easy to make it mobile (instead of iPhone) and then iPhone, Android and others would be able to Enders the page just fine.

Just my 2 pennies :)

The big difference is that Safari is based on WebKit, an OPEN SOURCE browser engine. IE6 took on a more proprietary method so that Microsoft could force people to use their product (which hurt everyone). With WebKit, on the other hand, if people don't like the direction where Apple is taking the web, they could just build off it themselves and keep the wheel turning. No need to start over.

Nice response but do you actually code any html or css?
That is the question?

In my mind there is no difference between Microsoft and Apple trying to make it an industry standard how things look and function in their browsers.
In my mind they both suck. One sucks more then the other but the other (apple) learned from the bully on what not to do.
Great, Apple does not like flash and my iphone does not like it.

It does not matter because at the end of the day it is people like me slicing and writing the xhtml making it work.
I have to explain to some designer that his flash menu will work in Ie 6-8, Firefox, Safari, Opera but not on the Iphone. Now it will not work on the Ipad either. So now we have to build another site to work with that too.
So now apple says what can be used and what cannot.

Sounds like Microsoft to me.

They all suck and where one is good the other browser is not and so on and so forth.

Like I said at the end of the day it is people like me doing the work to make it work.

sincerely,
